She was born on March 25, 1976 in Karachi, Pakistan, to an Iraqi mother, Tehmina, and a Pakistani father, Madan. She has two sisters, Hina and Huma, and a brother, Mohammed. She studied in Convent of Jesus & Mary High School in Karachi up until the age of 7, then re-located to Florida, USA, along with her mom and brother.

Somi re-located to Bombay and She was involved in several modeling assignments as well as appearances in 9 movies. Her successful career in Bollywood spanned from 1992 to 1999.

Somi pursued education seriously - somi has obtained a degree on film making, psychology and journalism from schools like Nova Southeastern University, The New York Film Academy, Connecticut School and the University of Miami.

Somy has produced documentaries on issues such as Abortion, Teenage Suicide, Domestic Violence and Lives of Muslim Womens.

Somy was leading actor and Salman Khan's girlfriend after he broke up with his former flame, Sangeeta Bijlani.

In 1999 she returned back to the U.S.A. and appeared in some radio talk-shows on social and political issues.

Her sister, Hina, an immigration attorney, is married to Robert, and has a son named Christopher.

While Huma is a Realtor, married to Shahid, and has two sons, Asim & Sameer.

Her brother, Mohammed, is employed in Showproco in Miami.

Somi is currently very active in social awareness of world issues. She created "intellectual fashion", and is running a successful company that contributes 10% of its profits to No More Tears, her non-profit organization.
